When is the best time for Umrah?
There is no wrong time — every Umrah is a blessing — but the season changes the crowds, the weather and the price.
Cooler weather: November to February
Daytime temperatures in Makkah are usually in the mid-20s to around 30 °C. This is the most comfortable time for elderly pilgrims and young children.
Ramadan
The Prophet ﷺ said that Umrah in Ramadan equals a Hajj in reward (Bukhari, Muslim). It is also the busiest and most expensive time, especially the last ten nights. Book hotels and transport months ahead.
Quieter months
Outside Ramadan and the school holidays, the weeks after Hajj season and early in the Islamic year are usually calmer, with better hotel prices.
Around Hajj
Umrah visas are normally paused in the weeks around Hajj. Check the current dates before you plan.
Packing checklist
Documents
- Passport (valid at least 6 months), visa, flight tickets and hotel confirmations
- Nusuk app installed and logged in
- Copies of documents saved on your phone and on paper
For ihram
- Men: two sets of ihram sheets, an ihram belt with pockets, safety pins
- Women: comfortable, modest clothes in breathable fabric
- Unscented soap, shampoo, deodorant and wet wipes (scented products are not allowed in ihram)
- Comfortable sandals that leave the ankle bone uncovered (for men)
Comfort and health
- Comfortable walking shoes — you may walk 10–15 km a day
- Personal medicines with prescriptions, plasters, pain relief, rehydration salts
- Unscented sunscreen, sunglasses and a small umbrella
- Refillable water bottle
Useful extras
- Small bag for carrying your shoes inside the mosque
- Pocket-size dua book or app
- Power bank and a Saudi SIM card or eSIM
- Light prayer mat, and a warm layer for air-conditioned halls and winter nights in Madinah
Coming home
Zamzam is usually carried in the sealed 5-litre containers sold in Makkah; check your airline's rules before you fly.
